How is the information provided by businesses verified?
We
spent a lot of time discussing this. In the end, we realized there
was no way we could verify the figures provided by employers without
a very large staff and budget. We also remain committed to our belief
that MOST employers, like most people, are ethical human beings.
Some of us grew up on Saturday morning TV programs in the 1950s.
One of the “codes” that some of us took away from these
programs was that when you “shook” on something, you
were honor bound to follow through on that commitment. Call us simplistic,
but we would like to believe that code still exists in this century.
Therefore, all we require of employers is that they (and their chief
financial officer or accountant) sign a statement indicating that
all calculations are accurate based
on their understanding of the intent of the questions. Their signature
is equivalent to the handshake of the 1950’s TV programs.
It is a sign of their honor as a business person or organizational
head. If someone complains, we will contact that employer for an
explanation. If the employer cannot satisfactorily answer our questions,
we will simply remove the business from our site.
