Why use the term “Worker Friendly?”
We
tried to find a simple term to identify businesses and organizations
that offer reasonable wages and benefits. The term “Worker
Friendly” did this for us. We recognize that the “Worker
Friendly” term is not perfect. It is vague. But we hope that
over time, people will visit our website and come to understand
how we are using this term. We shared this term with others and
got lots of great alternatives, such as “Wage Friendly Employer,”
“Worker Supportive Employer,” “Equity Employer,”
and “Fair Workplace.” We carefully considered each name,
but someone always found some nuance that made it not work in some
circumstances. Given that we could not agree on the “perfect”
name, we decided to go with our original “Worker Friendly
Employer” designation. The “thumbs up” logo connoted
our desire to always be positive in our approach. Our project is
about focusing on the good in our community, rather than pointing
out the problems.
